Causes of StressThere are numerous causes of stress in today’s society.  It seems that each day, another leading cause is becoming apparent for stress.  If you were to know what the leading cause of stress in your life, would you try to eliminate them?  

5 Leading Causes of Stress 

1.       Finances are one of the leading causes of stress. With the way the US economy is at this time, finances are sure to be at the topof the list for causing stress. In many polls that have been conducted online, stress caused by finances is number one.  Many of the individuals that choose finances as the number one factor leading to their stress have mortgage payments and car payments to make each month.  Some even may have two mortgages.  Stress can also be caused by debt or loss of employment, which is also a loss of income.  Many people end up in bankruptcy from financial stress.  Senior citizens feel that their retirement income is not sufficient to supply their needs and many college students are fretting over their student loans. 

2.      Work is also a leading stress factor.  Our place of employment causes stress in many different ways.  Many individuals get frustrated within the workplace by new job duties, maintaining job quality and job performance, as well as promotions.  Stress from our careers can be brought on by others and ourselves in the workplace.  Many students say that schoolwork is a leading cause of stress in their lives.

3.      Many individuals say that family is a cause of stress. Arguments, divorce, and marriage are all factors that lead to stress within a family. The health of your family can also cause a large amount of stress. A child becoming pregnant or having a miscarriage can cause stress. Change of employment, relocation, and many others can cause stress for the entire family, not just one individual. 

4.      Everyone wants to be able to fully control their lives in one way or another, therefore, personal concerns is a leading cause of stress.  Personal concerns could include factors inside and outside of the home and workplace.  Taking children to after school activities or doctor appointments, keeping the house clean and taking your children to school can cause stress for any individual especially if one is trying to take care of all things by themselves.  Many find that it is hard to manage their time properly as others are found to be in control.  Many individuals’ stress can be caused be legal issues or even a terrible habit.  One could be going through changes including puberty, becoming a single parent, or going back to school, which can all cause stress.

5.       Death can be one of the top leading causes of stress in today’s society.  Death can be of a co-worker, a loved family member, or even a close friend.  For many people that are very fond of their pets can find the death of their pet quite stressful.  It is very hard when a family member or friend dies, but when it is a child, it can be very devastating.   

As you can see, there are many factors that can cause stress.  There are many that have not even been mentioned here.  Each individual is different; therefore, the cause of stress is different for each person.  If you are able to learn more about the cause of stress in your life, you will be more able to prevent it from taking a toll on your life and health.
